This training contains the essential theory and special procedures that allow the student to understand coding and medical insurance policies and procedures for various healthcare companies. It prepares the student for a career in the medical field as a medical billing and coding specialist, utilizing Medical terminology, ICD-9, CPT, and HCPC, which are essential components of this program.
Medical Billing and Coding
This course focuses on established medical diagnosis and procedural coding systems, including a study of nomenclature versus classification systems, basic coding principles, and application of coding guidelines in outpatient and inpatient settings. It includes medical insurance billing theory and methodology, and covers specific reimbursement theories, healthcare concepts, and the practical application of third-party insurance rules.
To qualify for graduation from this program, the students must demonstrate competency in each of the skills required. Graduates in this program will be qualified to take the CMB National Exam and typically apply for positions in laboratories, insurance agencies, government agencies, schools, consulting firms, law firms, hospitals, physician offices, and clinics. Some Medical Billing and Coding graduates may also apply for home office jobs and contracts.
